Our Story

At Sowing Seeds Sensory, we believe that everyone deserves a space where they can feel calm, safe, and supported—no matter their abilities. Sensory wellness isn’t just something we offer; it’s something we live and truly believe in.

This journey started from a very personal place. When Laura, one of our fellow CIC directors, found out that the only sensory space that helped her autistic sons feel regulated—and gave her family a much-needed break—was moving, she was heartbroken. That space had been a lifeline, and the thought of losing it was overwhelming.

That experience opened our eyes to a bigger issue: there just weren’t enough sensory-friendly spaces in West Yorkshire, especially ones that welcomed both children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities.

So, we decided to do something about it. We came together, fueled by both research and real-life need, and poured our hearts into creating Sowing Seeds Sensory here in Thackley. This isn’t just a facility—it’s a place built with love, shaped by lived experience, and driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to spaces where they can truly thrive.

We recognise the immense value that sensory activities and therapies can bring—not only as therapeutic tools, but also as powerful pathways to connection, regulation, and personal growth.
